Part 1: Auto-hitting, Godmodding, Rule-breaking, and Rude Behavior
Roleplay is writing a story with someone else, or more than one someone else. You can have one character or more, create plots...but there are rules. You can not control another person's character. That includes auto-hitting, which is when you write that your character's attack acutally hit the opponent instead of typing that your character attempted to hit the opponent, leaving whether or not the attack hit up to the roleplayer of the opponent.
Good:
Berkheart: Berkheart's eyes widened as Brighteyes completely ignored his question, instead bunching back and lunging at him. The tom narrowly dodged to the side but gained a new scratch on his shoulder. Lucky it wasn't my head. As if acting of its own accord, Berkheart's paw reached out in a desperate attempt to add a few scratches of its own to Brighteyes' face.
Brighteyes: Brighteyes failed to recover quick enough, and soon had blood dribbling into her eye. Well great. Her jaws snapped open as her head jerked forward, hoping to catch Berkheart's extended foreleg in her mouth so she could crunch down and break it...or at least give him a limp.
This is good because neither roleplayer decided whether or not their own character's attacks hit or missed, instead using the words "attempt" and "hoping to," and also because neither character totally dodged any of the attacks; both got a few new battlewounds to show off the the folks back home.
Not so good:
Berkheart: Berkheart's eyes widened as Brighteyes completely ignored his question, instead bunching back and lunging at him. The tom nimbly dodged to the side as the she-cat flew right past him. Oh yeah, I'm awesome. As if acting of its own accord, Berkheart's paw reached out and slashed a few scratches onto Brighteyes' face.
Brighteyes: ((...dude, you can't do that. That's auto-hitting.))
Berkheart: ((Well, I just did, so you're just gonna have to deal.))
Seastorm: ((Berk, auto-hitting isn't allowed. You can attempt to slash at Brighteyes' face, but you can't say that you did. Please edit your post.))
Berkheart: ((Um, how 'bout no? Go fall in a ditch, you can't tell me what do do.))
*someone has been banned*
Kay, this is a little extreme, but gets the point across. I hope. Berk completely dodged Brighteyes' attack, which is alright, but you can't dodge all attacks. It just doesn't happen that way. But mainly he auto-hit, which I hope you can recognize by now. Plus, he was rude to a Elite member and refused to follow the rules. That kind of behavior will get you banned.
